Mechanical Engineering is TOP JOB

The Strojařina Top Job project was initiated in the Zlín Region in local schools, and companies to increase interest in technical fields, which has been declining in the area. It’s important to realize that more than one-third of people in the Czech Republic work in the industrial sector. The Zlín Region is the second most industrialized region in the country. Nearly one hundred thousand people work directly in engineering sectors here. However, as the population ages and as people retire, these workers need to be replaced by new talent. This is becoming an increasing challenge in today’s world of “YouTubers, TikTokers,” etc. Therefore, we decided to participate in the project not only with financial support but also through our own activities.

Throughout the year, we enabled principals and teachers from secondary schools in Vsetín (SPŠS Vsetín, SOŠ J. Sousedík Vsetín) to visit our production facilities so that they could see for themselves the environment where their graduates would work and the types of positions we need to fill. These visits were followed by excursions for elementary school students. We introduced the students to what our company does and explained how essential passive safety components are in passenger cars.

During the summer holidays, we organized a camp in cooperation with SOŠ Josef Sousedík Vsetín for the children of our employees. The purpose of the event was to motivate children—and their parents, who often help with career choices—to study fields that offer professional training. The children had the opportunity to explore vocational workshops and try working with tools, wood, CNC machine programming, and more.

In addition to these activities, we regularly participate in education fairs and job fairs, organize mock recruitment processes, and present our company at schools.

Did you know, that:

  • The average salary of an engineering technician, mechanical engineer, locksmith, toolmaker, or CNC machine operator in the Zlín Region is around 40,000 to 45,000 CZK.
  • Engineering is one of the few fields offering education and broad employment opportunities with just a vocational certificate, high school diploma, or university degree.
  • It is a myth that work in engineering is “dirty.” Employees work in clean environments with filters and air conditioning, and heavy manual labour is performed by robots and CNC machines.
  • Another myth is that engineering is an outdated field. On the contrary, thanks to modern technologies, software, and automation, it is one of the fastest-growing fields. Examples include robotic systems and autonomous vehicles.

Engineering is simply a TOP JOB!
